Artist Spotlight: Sarah Baptist

I was looking through my Pinterest feed a few weeks ago and started digging deeper into one of the paintings I had saved…

it was one of Sarah Baptist’s. Once I started going down the rabbit hole I couldn’t stop. I fell in love with Sarah’s figures and then noticed she had a link to her website where I discovered her impressionist cityscapes. After I saved one, I found another that I loved even more. It kept happening over and over. Hence the reason why I chose Sarah as April’s artist of the month.

Sarah’s got a great video series on her site that answers lots of questions like how she got started painting. I watched all of them, making me an official fan girl.

Here’s a bit she wrote about her urban landscapes…

“I go to 'ordinary' places and unveil their extraordinary-ness for you to enjoy, because living with original art can transform you by lifting your spirits and inspiring you EVERY SINGLE DAY. Using oil paints and the language of shape, color and design, I transform overlooked, unnoticed scenes into
Urban Landscape Paintings.

When I walk down a city street, I get excited by the sights and sounds; the colors, textures and shapes. There is DEFINITELY a rhythm and grace I see and
try to capture in my paintings.

I go on location and paint what I see. This is called 'plein air painting'. There is nothing like being out on the street, reacting to the light, sounds and, often, the people while painting. You have to focus and respond quickly because conditions change. It's kind of a spontaneous art-sport!”

This one (above) is a painting of Philly, so close to my home and part of my family’s history. A city that will always be very near and dear to my heart.

There’s interior paintings on Sarah’s site as well.

This one is giving me all the feels. The wood cabinets remind me of my beloved aunt’s kitchen.

Sarah also has an Etsy shop filled with gorgeous figure paintings and sketches.

Here’s what Sarah has to say about them…“The figure is mysterious, beautiful, dynamic and always changing. Once you think you have it, you find a new curve, a different angle of a familiar pose and it's like you are starting all over again.”

There’s many that I saved, but here’s a few favorites…

If you love one of Sarah’s paintings, snatch it up ASAP. They’re originals. Once they’re sold that’s it, your chance is gone. Take it from me, there’s been a few originals that I didn’t pull the trigger on fast enough and I regret the missed opportunities.

If you’re still looking for that perfect piece of art for your blank wall, send me an email: sara@sarasmithinteriors.com or a DM on Instagram. I’d love to help you find something that really speaks to you. I’m convinced that’s what I’ve been put on this planet for: to help people find art they love. Nothing brings me more joy!

That’s all for this week. Here’s hoping you bring a beautiful piece of art into your home this month. As Sarah said, “Living with original art can transform you by lifting your spirits and inspiring you every single day.” It will also get you one step closer to a home you love.

Wishing you a beautiful week ahead.
