Artist Spotlight: Jennifer Hohlfelder
The school year countdown is on! I don’t know about you, but I’ve got summer on the brain and Jennifer Hohlfelder’s paintings are giving me all the summer time feels.
I first found Jennifer’s prints on Artfully walls, many moons ago, and favorited a few of her pieces. When I revisited my round-up, I did a deep dive on Jennifer and fell deeply in love with her collection of originals. They’re simplistic in nature, but the bold bright colors and textures really make them sing.
This one is my fav of the bunch, it’s so serene. The reflections in the water are drawing me right in.
Jennifer has a variety of mediums and subject matters in her collections so there’s something for just about everyone. These are a select few of all the gorgeous pieces I bookmarked.
Love how the barn painting almost looks like a collage.
Sketches are perfect for building gallery walls and offsetting a bold and bright painting.
Here’s some info about Jennifer from her website…
“I was raised in Boulder, Colorado by artistic parents. They quietly instilled their passion into my life, which I finally started exploring on my own in 2010. After taking years of painting classes, in 2019, with major coaxing, I started exhibiting publicly to enthusiastic reviews of my fresh approach. I taught myself to paint in oils which has turned into my favorite medium to work with, whether in impressionistic brush strokes or an impasto method. I tend to rely heavily on nostalgia, memories and scenes, people or objects from everyday life as inspiration.
I believe this quote sums up my style perfectly: “[Her paintings] evoke a strong sense of nostalgia with a side of gorgeous simplicity. Nothing fussy, no overthinking - and that sparseness is what makes them strong. Her brushstrokes are raw, and her shapes not quite finished - as though they’re images from a memory you can’t quite fully recall, and yet the feeling of being there is whole and complete.” (Kimberly Beekman, Colorado Homes & Lifestyles Magazine, Mar/Apr 2021)
If her originals are not in the cards for you at the moment, do yourself a favor and check out Jennifer’s prints on Artfully Walls.
This one's my fav of the bunch. I love the texture, and the scalloped edges on the umbrellas.
Love the surfboards! They’d be perfect in a coastal home.
