Artist Spotlight: Kitty Cooper
I recently stumbled upon Kitty’s paintings while hunting for a landscape for an art client. I then ended up saving like fourteen of her pieces to my personal favorites folder. Needless to say, I’m a big fan. Kitty has a well rounded collection of subjects, but it’s her landscapes that swept me off my feet. They’re gorgeous.
Kitty’s work can be found on Artfinder and on Saatchi as well, two of my favorite sites for sourcing originals. Her prices are very reasonable, especially considering the amount of detail she puts into each piece. This one, for example, is $94 a total bargain for its size: 19.69 x 23.62. If that’s out of your range, don’t worry…there’s an 8x10 print version on Saatchi for $40.

If you love that one, just wait till you see the rest…
I’m really feelin the rectangular shape of this one (below). It’s a great piece to prop up on a shelf or a mantel.
Print version is here.
Here’s some background info on Kitty from Artfinder…
“I was born in Southampton, England in 1982 and grew up on a houseboat until I was five, then my family sailed to the Caribbean where we lived and cruised for three years. We returned to England when I was nine and settled on the Isle of Wight, where I still live now with my husband and two young children.
I have been painting since childhood and have been focussed solely on art since school. For the past ten years now I have been painting imagined portraits and landscapes from my own photos, predominately.
The portraits are my main focus currently, in various mediums and surfaces, I like to experiment and try lots of different ideas and explore where it can go. I like to create a beauty, some mystery or surrealism, a feeling of a story or narrative. Sometimes inspired by fashion, or life events, sometimes stream-of-consciousness.
The landscapes are mainly inspired by my own photos taken on the Isle of Wight or New Forest. I love striking light and dark, bold compositions and again a feeling of mystery or story. Woodlands, beach side trees and country roads are recurring themes, the focus being on the trees. I guess it’s an almost human element, a character or idea in the landscape.
I work in any medium from drawings to paintings, in watercolour, ink, oil or acrylic, in an illustrative style to an expressive gestural painterly style.
I have many of the usual influences, Basquiat, Picasso, Van Gogh, Egon Sheile, Daniel Clowes, comic books, graphic novels.”
And now for a few more of my favorites, though I’ll tell you it was really challenging to narrow them down…
$31 bucks for this little guy…
I mean, that’s a steal if I’ve ever seen one, even with the cost of shipping!
I really just want to hoard all of these paintings and keep them for myself, but luckily I’m in a generous sharing kind of mood.
That’s all for this week! If you loved my selections then do yourself a favor and take a deeper dive. Kitty has plenty more to offer. Be sure to check out her portraits.
If you love one of Kitty’s pieces, then snatch it up ASAP. These are one of a kind originals and once they’re gone…they’re gone. You’ll never regret purchasing art that speaks to your soul. It will bring so much joy to your space while getting you one step closer to a home you love.
Wishing you a beautiful week ahead.
