Earlier this weekend I repainted all the grungy white trim in our hallway. It was bad. And now it’s glorious, if I do say so myself. It’s amazing how much impact a little paint from the basement can have on a space!

As I was painting, I realized how much I’m looking forward to having visitors in our home again. In anticipation of such happy days, I decided to create a foyer design board.

Now while you’re reading this post, understand that I call it a foy-yur. Because I like it that way. I also commonly refer to it as an entryway. More sophisticated people would call it a foy-yay. Because that’s the “correct” pronunciation of the word. Just putting it out there!

This design board combines the practical and the pretty. All the things that make a successful, and functional, entryway: a place to hang your coat, a place to catch your keys, a place to hold that wet umbrella, and some pretty things to greet your guests.

I realize that most of these items aren’t necessities, but they sure do make a good first impression when friends come to visit. A fresh new scent and some beautiful branches will make all the difference in the world! Unless you’re new here, you already know how I feel about artwork, so I’m glad we can agree to file the framed prints under “necessities.”

I can personally vouch for the flush mount light. We have the brass version (in 14 inches) in our foyer and I love it! Handcrafted with care by a really sweet Etsy vendor! I gave him a 5 star review. One of the most essential elements in the foyer is the rug. Let’s face it, your front door probably gets lots of traffic, unless you direct visitors to the backdoor…

You need a rug that can stand up to all that wear and tear. The runner I used in my design board is an indoor/outdoor rug which means it’s stain resistant and easy to clean. It was the starting point for the entire board. Remember, when decorating any space, always start with the rug! Check out this post to learn a wee bit more about that.

I also rounded up some additional console tables, in case you’re in need of a new one. I know that most people don’t have much space in their foyer, so most of these are less than 14 inches wide. If you do have a large foyer then get a large round table for your entryway. It will look amazing! In which case you would definitely need to call it a foy-yay.

My console table is about 20 years old and has definitely seen better days, so I’m heavily considering some of the options above. Do you have a favorite?
