Do you have that spring home improvement itch? Me too. I feel like I get it every year at this time.  Like, let's fix...everything, right now!

But what should you do when you’re dying for change, and can’t afford a home renovation? Fix the quick and easy things first! You’d be amazed at what a difference they can make. Stick with me while I hone in on some low cost/high gratification updates, that will have you experiencing a win in no time.

New Door Knobs

Do your door knobs match? If you live in an old home, chances are fairly good that you’re shaking your head right now. Ask me how I know, lol.  Changing out door knobs is an easy, low cost/high impact update.   Before we moved out of our old house, we swapped out all the shiny lacquered brass door knobs (and hinges); I could not believe the difference it made!

When shopping for new knobs, steer clear of the builder grade tones: chrome, brushed nickel, and lacquered brass knobs.  An antique brass, polished nickel, or a black knob will really elevate the look of your home.  Save the chrome for your car trim.

Here are some favs under $100.

If you can’t swing a full-house door knob swap, try changing out just the knob on your front door. The first one (above) is our new front door knob. It’s a high quality, substantial, knob that I would recommend to anyone with a traditional style home.

New Outdoor Planters

How long have you had your current planters? Do you still love them? Are they in good shape? New planters can work wonders for your outdoor space, especially if it’s limited to a front stoop or small patio.  Check out these beauties...

Paint

Painting is another low cost/high impact update. Do you work from home? If so, why not repaint your office space, even if it’s just a small reach-in closet (I remember those days). I’m sure you’re spending lots of time there, so make it a priority on your update list.

You can also make a big impact by repainting your front door.

Organized Storage

I’ve been dying for a kitchen remodel but unfortunately that’s not in the cards right now. For a quick and easy win, I did a spice jar makeover.  Before, my cabinet was a hodge-podge mix of jars. Now, it’s uniform, beautiful, and oh-so satisfying!

Let’s face it, we’re all spending more time in our kitchen these days, so why not put a couple of dollars into organizing and beautifying it.  Besides new spice jars, you could also spend a few bucks on shelf risers, or fridge organizers.

Regardless of what you buy to reorganize with, be sure it’s something that you know you’ll be able to maintain, otherwise it will be a waste of money.

New Picture Frames

Do your picture frames have words on them? You know, like “family,” “friends,” “sisters.” Come now, you know who these people are. You don’t need labels on your frames to tell you.  Unless of course you’re experiencing early onset dementia; in which case feel free to keep them as is!  If not, it’s time for a change.
