Okay, so technically the title should be abstract originals $50 and under, but it just didn’t have the same ring to it.

Anyway…abstract art is my jam. I love its flexible and accommodating nature. It works just as well in a super traditional home as it does in a modern home. In fact, I might actually prefer the way it looks in a traditional home. It really wakes up the space and brings things to life.

Etsy, as I’m sure you know, is a treasure trove of original art. However, unless you know how to narrow down your search, you’ll be lost in a sea of 395,509 paintings. Not joking. That’s the number that came up when I typed in “abstract original art.” The best way to narrow your search results is to understand a bit about art labels. Here’s a quick and dirty guide.

If you like abstract art with straight lines and/or specific shapes like so…

you’ll want to use the term “geometric abstract.” You can narrow things down further by specifying the type of paint you like. To get art similar to the style above I would type in “geometric abstract acrylic painting.”

“Geometric abstract watercolor” would obviously yield different results…

If you prefer painterly abstracts, with colors melting into each other, try using the term “abstract impressionist painting.” Then add your favorite paint medium (oil, acrylic, etc.) to narrow the results even more.

Here’s one that would fall under “abstract impressionist landscape oil painting.”

Perhaps you prefer abstract collages. They can usually be found under the name “mixed media abstract.'“

Okay, now on to the round-up! Here’s my current abstract favs for $50 or less. Most are pretty small and would look great on a shelf. Or… frame them with an oversized mat, they’ll command attention in the room.
