Where To Buy The Perfect Sofa Without Leaving Your Home

Let’s be honest, buying a sofa sight unseen can be pretty intimidating. I know, because I’ve been there!

The good news is that there are lots of reliable sites where you can get the perfect sofa while avoiding pushy furniture salesmen, and the hassle of running from store to store to find exactly what you’re looking for.

If you’ve done an exhaustive search for the perfect sofa for your space: the right size the right color, the right legs…but have come up empty handed, then I’d suggest you go the custom route. Fortunately, affordable custom furniture sites are beginning to pop up all over the place. Most are very user friendly, and make it possible to get exactly the look you’re going for without taking out a second mortgage.

My first experience with custom sofas was on the Clad Home site. Clad Home makes fully customizable sofas in their California workshop.  Clad is a female, interior designer owned shop, so you can feel good about who you're supporting when purchasing there.

At Clad you can expand the width and the depth of your favorite sofa, choose the fabric and the internal stuffing, and choose the legs style and stain color. I can personally vouch for Clad as I purchased two sofas from them 5 years ago. They’ve held up exceedingly well to daily wear and tear, countless drink spills, and cat puke. Clad has increased their prices significantly since I bought my sofas, but I’d still consider their furniture well worth the investment. Plus, they’re now offering free shipping which is a huge bonus.

Interior Define gets stellar reviews for their furniture, especially their sofas.  They allow the same types of customizations as Clad (size, legs, pillow configuration and stuffing). I also love that they have videos of people sitting down on their sofas.  Their prices are great, and they’re having a 15% off sale until Tuesday!

I customized this Gabby sofa by adding extra length and depth, brass legs, and down filling and still ended up under the $2,000 mark. Very impressive.

Maiden Home is very similar to Clad & Interior Define in that you can choose the length, the leg stain, and the fabric (of course). Their sofas get 5 star reviews plus they have a lifetime guarantee on the frame!

For semi-customizable sofas, check out these sites:

Crate & Barrel & CB2  Both of these sites have a good reputation in terms of quality and customer support. They also allow reviews on their site (unlike Pottery Barn and affiliates), which is something I quite frankly expect, from “big box” stores, and genuinely appreciate.  Here a few I’m currently loving…

Room & Board is another great site for semi customizable furniture. They have a solid reputation and have free return delivery, which essentially makes purchasing a sofa there risk-free. These sofas are all very well reviewed.

Wayfair.  Believe it or not, Wayfair carries some very reputable furniture brands like Bernhardt, Rowe, and Hooker. They also have their own line of customizable sofas which have an impressive amount of fabrics to choose from.  They are very affordable and generally speaking get great reviews.

High Street Market, McGee & Co

These shops are owned by interior designers who know their stuff.  They have a discerning eye and high standards for quality control. They allow fabric customization and have a nice selection of performance fabrics which wear very well with kids and pets.  Both sites have a well curated collection which is great if you’re short on time and don’t want to wade through 57 million choices on the internet. These sofas are pricey, but a good solid investment that should last for years to come.

So friends, if you’re in the market for a new sofa don’t hesitate to shop these sites. Chances are you’ll find the perfect match, at a price you can afford, without spending lots of time and gas money.

That’s all for this week! I’ll be back next week with more styling tips and tricks that will get you one step closer to a home you love.

Wishing you a beautiful, and healthy, week ahead.
